Need help with QR & Barcode Reader? Most questions are answered below. If not, email [email protected] with your device model, iOS version and what happened — if a code doesn't scan, a photo of it helps. We read every message.

Scanning

The camera shows a black screen

The app needs access to the camera. Open the iPhone Settings app → Privacy & Security → Camera, and turn the app on. Then close and reopen the app.

A code won't scan

  • Hold the phone steady, 10–30 cm from the code, with the whole code inside the frame.
  • Make sure there is enough light and no glare on the code.
  • Supported codes are QR codes and EAN-8, EAN-13, PDF417 and Code 128 barcodes.
  • You can also scan a code from a photo or screenshot: choose the photo button and pick the picture.

Why do I see product details for some barcodes?

For product barcodes, the app looks the number up in Open Food Facts, a free public database — from version 1.3 only when you open the product search, in earlier versions automatically. If a product isn't in it, no details are shown; you can search for the code on Google, Amazon or other sites from the result screen.

Is it safe to open a link from a QR code?

The app shows you the link first. Check that the address is what you expect before you open it, especially for codes in public places, and don't enter passwords or payment details on a page you don't trust.

Reminders

How do I turn reminders on or off?

From version 1.3, reminders are off unless you turn on Reminders in the app's Settings; iOS then asks whether the app may send notifications.

History

Where are my scans?

In the History tab, on your device only. To delete scans, select them and tap the trash button. History isn't synced between devices.

Premium

I paid but premium isn't unlocked

Tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple ID you bought with. From version 1.3 it is in the app's Settings; in every version it is also on the premium screen. If it still doesn't unlock, email us the date of purchase and the plan; please don't include your Apple ID password.

After updating to 1.3: “We moved to a new purchase system”

Version 1.3 checks purchases directly with Apple and usually confirms yours automatically. If Apple hasn't confirmed it yet, premium keeps working for a few days and the app shows this message: tap Restore Purchases while signed in with the Apple ID you bought with. A lifetime purchase is then kept for good; a subscription for as long as it is active.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open the Settings app → [your name] → Subscriptions → QR & Barcode Reader. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
