Need help with File Opener & Extractor: ZIP? Most questions are answered below. If not, email [email protected] with your device model, iOS version, the app version and what happened — we read every message. From the app's Settings → Feedback, the email already includes your device model and app version.

The answers below describe version 1.2 of the app. Version 1.1 and earlier support fewer formats and work differently in places; when version 1.2 is available in the App Store, update to get the features described here. You can see your version in the App Store.

Opening and extracting

Which formats can I open?

From version 1.2: ZIP and ZIPX, RAR (RAR4 and RAR5, including multi-part and solid archives), 7z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, Z and LZMA, as well as CPIO, ISO and CAB.

Which formats can I create?

ZIP, optionally protected with a password (AES-256 encryption).

My archive has a password

Password-protected ZIP files are supported: the app asks for the password. Password-protected RAR and 7z archives are not supported yet — the app says so when you open one. Extract them on a computer, or ask the sender for an unprotected copy.

“The archive is damaged or incomplete”

The file was probably not fully downloaded or copied. Download it again, and for multi-part RAR archives make sure every part is in the same folder before you open the first part.

Is there a size limit?

To keep your device stable, one extraction can be up to 4 GB in total, 2 GB per file and 20,000 files. The app also stops if your device would have less than 200 MB of free space left. Free up space, or extract very large archives on a computer.

“Nothing was extracted”

For your safety the app skips links, device files and paths that point outside the destination folder. If an archive contains only such items, nothing is extracted.

How do I open a file from Mail, Safari or another app?

Tap the file, then the Share button, and choose Copy to Zip Extractor. You can also import from the Files app inside Zip Extractor.

Premium

I paid but premium isn't unlocked

Open the premium screen and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple ID you bought with. If it still doesn't unlock, email us the date of purchase and the plan; please don't include your Apple ID password.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Zip Extractor. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
